2017 Toyota Prius V Powertrain and Performance

Feel free to use the 2017 Toyota Prius V as your daily driver, because it will reward you with fuel-sipping performance that helps save you money and save the environment form carbon emissions. Like every Prius, the 2017 Prius V is powered by a gasoline-electric hybrid system. In the Prius V, this system consists of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) paired with a permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor and a sealed nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack to store electric energy. With their powers combined, the Prius V's hybrid synergy drive components deliver 134 net horsepower and 258 net pound-feet of torque. Hybrid vehicles are known for their impressive torque ratings, and you will have no trouble getting up to speed for merging or passing in the 2017 Prius V. The hybrid system send power to the front wheels through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT) that is controlled by an electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system (EPS). You also get a three-mode drive system that allows you to tailor every commute and errand run to your exact needs. Besides the default hybrid operation mode, there is EV mode, which powers the car with 100% electric energy for up to one mile at a time; ECO mode, which dampens throttle response to increase fuel economy; and POWER mode, which delivers a boost of power and torque which allow you to keep pace with fast-moving traffic or get up to speed for merging and passing maneuvers.

Design and Style

In a recent redesign, the Toyota Prius V was given a sportier and more athletic look. That updated styling has been carried over to the 2017 Prius V model and is still exciting drivers and car shoppers all over Florida and beyond. Slim headlamps frame a sharp grille and dramatic accents on the front fascia provide an aggressive attitude to this large hybrid wagon by giving it a fanged look. The front accent pieces also lend themselves to the Prius V's wide athletic stance, which speaks of performance and dependability. The rear glass on the hatchback door of the 2017 Prius V is a single, vertical pane, which many drivers find easier to see out of than the Prius Liftback's dual-paned rear window. The front seats offer an upright seating position that provides amazing visibility out of all windows. Front seat bolstering has been improved and trimmed with higher quality fabric to provide even more support. The rear seats are split 60/40 and can be reclined, slide forward and back along a track, and folded into the floor to create additional cargo space. There is a center console between the front seats that provides an integrated arm rest for the driver and front passenger as well as small-item storage for phones, chargers, maps, wallets, and loose change.

Interior Versatility and Capacities

If you think you hear an echo when you sit inside of the 2017 Prius V, you might be right. This extra-large hybrid vehicle offers a spacious interior that can be reconfigured in a variety of ways to fit both passengers and cargo with ease. Behind the rear seats you get 34.3 cubic feet of cargo volume, which can be extended to up to 40.2 cubic feet by sliding the rear bench toward the front of the vehicle. If you need more space for large cargo items, fold the rear seats into the floor and you will open up 67.3 cubic feet of total cargo volume behind the front seats. The front passenger's seat in every Prius V model can fold flat to provide you with a car-length load surface that can accommodate anything from skis to rolled up carpets, or even a bike or two in a pinch. The driver and front passenger will enjoy 39.6 inches of head room, 55.9 inches of shoulder room, 53.5 inches of hip room, and 41.3 inches of leg room. Comfort was a major factor in designing the rear seat of the 2017 Prius V, and it shows; with 38.6 inches of head room, 55.2 inches of shoulder room, 53.5 inches of hip room, and 35.9 inches of legroom, rear seat passengers can stretch out without worry of being cramped. The rear seats of the Prius V recline as well to offer even more comfort options for rear seat passengers.
